Tadelakt & Gekolakt polishing stone

Saviukumaja´s tadelakt & Gekolakt polishing stones are handmade of porcelain.

Traditional application of tadelakt, as well as Gekolakt, includes polishing with stone, treatment with olive oil soap solution and dedication, in order to get the water-repellent surface. Gekolakt is a 100% natural decorative lime finish plaster inspired by the Moroccan tadelakt.

Artisans in Morocco use mainly so-called river stones for polishing. In collaboration with ceramist, we have designed and developed very handy porcelain polishing stones to make the polishing work more comfortable. Our polishing stones are handmade and marked with Geko logo.

The rumour goes, that the polishing stone should be 7 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness or harder. Mohs scale of mineral hardness is a qualitative ordinal scale characterizing scratch resistance of various minerals through the ability of harder material to scratch softer material.

Our own experience has shown, that some of the weaker stones can do the trick too. Please do note however, if you decide to choose natural stone for polishing, that you test it before starting to use it.
