SAVIUKUMAJA ACHIEVES M1 EMISSION CLASSIFICATION.

We are proud to announce that Saviukumaja OÜ has officially received the M1 emission classification for our lime and clay finishing materials!

What Does M1 Mean?

The M1 emission class represents the highest indoor air quality standard for building materials. It certifies that our products have been rigorously tested for: Volatile organic compounds (VOC). Formaldehyde emissions. Odour intensity.

In simple terms – our materials are safe, clean, and ideal for indoor environments, promoting a healthy and natural living atmosphere for homes and public spaces alike.

A Trusted Nordic Standard: M1 is the highest possible emission class, complying with Finnish RTS standards. It is widely recognized across the Nordic countries and Europe as a trusted mark of quality and responsibility in construction materials.

Our Commitment to Health and Sustainability. This certification reaffirms Saviukumaja’s ongoing commitment to: 1. Sustainable and eco-friendly production. 2. Healthy indoor environments. 3. Responsible and transparent building practices.

It strengthens our credibility both in Estonia and throughout our European export markets, ensuring clients can rely on the natural purity of our products.

Certification Validity: The M1 certificate is valid until October 2028, and we are now proudly displaying the M1 mark across our product range and communications.

When creating our home, it was important for us to use natural materials that support a healthy indoor climate. That’s why we chose UKU’s natural finishes for all our walls and ceilings. We’re truly happy with the result – the surfaces feel alive, bringing warmth and character into every room. Unlike plain white walls, these finishes add depth, texture, and a welcoming atmosphere. Thank you to the UKU team for making it possible!

It’s always been a pleasure to support a local manufacturer and to introduce clay plasters during workshops for self-builders and architects. The mixes have been consistent and reliable — no surprises. I’ll continue sharing both great materials and an environmentally conscious mindset in the future!

I loved painting with UKU clay paints! The shades are beautifully soft, and the surface has a lively, pleasant texture. Another big plus was how easy it was to mix the paint and clean the tools using only water.

RAMMED EARTH DEFINED OUR AUTUMN. STILL DEFINING OUR VIBE.

Looking back at UKU’s autumn vibe — which was all about rammed earth. Weeks of testing, experimenting, and shaping beautiful design elements.

Here are some highlights:
• Round plant pots for Lasnamäe’s Circular Economy Centre with @kolmkoma, rammed side-by-side with @krohwin

• A striped rammed-earth counter for @tallinnbusinessincubator by @lumiaarhitektid

With this post we’d also like to encourage designers, makers, and curious creatives to add rammed earth to their skill set by joining a workshop with UKU. It’s honestly not as hard as it looks. The Motor team came to one of our workshops and now you can admire the beautiful counter table they made themselves.

FYI — we’ve got a whole stack of samples ready to fuel the next projects, so get in touch!

More to come soon
🇪🇪Estonia celebrates 108 years.

It is so important for us to celebrate this moment and our identity. At the same time, we remember that long before there was a state, our ancestors were already living and building here.

Tradition was formed through doing. You can also experience it in the buildings that are still standing.

Across barns, farmhouses, manors and castles, clay and lime had their place. From the simplest structures to the most refined, the same materials from the same soil.

Many of these buildings still stand. Some remain in use, others are slowly returning to the earth from which they were once taken, like quiet monuments to history.

UKU’s present knowledge has grown through restoring clay buildings. Opening old layers, we see how naturally clay and lime were woven into our building tradition.

We have seen walls where these materials have endured for generations. We have seen repairs that kept a building alive, layer upon layer, like patchwork on old linen work clothes or handmade blankets.
This kind of knowledge gathers over time.

108 years as a republic is one chapter.

Happy Birthday, Estonia.
And thank you to those who built before us, whose experience continues to shape contemporary natural building.
From vision to reality.
