Gallery – Estonian Traditional Clay Houses

Discover Estonia’s traditional clay houses, carrying the centuries-old heritage of earth construction. Built from natural and durable materials, these buildings are an important part of Estonia’s cultural and architectural landscape.

Many clay houses have been restored and preserved, while others have gradually returned to the earth from which their materials were taken.

As seen in the photos, many clay buildings are finished with a lime plaster coat on the exterior walls, providing protection from weather and climate.
