At the Tallinn Architecture Biennale (TAB), Saviukumaja highlights the importance of traditional and locally sourced natural materials by contributing to Déchelette Architecture’s project, which focuses on local natural building materials and techniques. The installation, Ornamental Records from Tallinn, offered an immersive experience where visitors moved among rammed-earth columns combined with metal and wood fragments. Each column produced sounds that reflected the materials used, creating a rhythmic and sensory experience in the space.
The project blended ancient materials and techniques with industrial elements, showcasing the potential of natural materials and traditional craftsmanship in the future of carbon-free architecture.
Marko Kikas, founder of Saviukumaja, was pleased to contribute the rammed-earth mixture for the installation, seeing materials like clay and lime increasingly recognized and used by architects as legitimate, traditional, and natural building resources.
