Fading. Dignity. Returning to earth.
This selection from our collection is dedicated to the process of decay. There is a monumental peace in the slow return of earth houses to the soil. Raw clay and timber, glass shards embedded in time-worn lime plaster (slide 5).
Without protective lime plaster, the walls seem to bleed. Red clay melting, leaching down the unfired earth blocks (slide 7-8). It is both fragile and powerful. Nothing lasts, but it still belongs.
These photos capture the decay, but Marko Kikas (@saviukumaja) captures the rebirth. His archive is a tribute to the belief that clay and lime are our sustainable future. There is much to learn from the creativity of our ancestors.

Kustumine. Väärikus. Maastumine.
See valik meie fotokogust on pühendatud kaduvusele. Savimajade aeglases tagasitees maapinda on mingi seletamatu väärikas rahu. Savi, puit, maakivi ja vana lubikrohv, kus peidus pudelikillud (slaid 5).
Lubja kaitsekrohvita jäänud seinad justkui veritseksid, savi nõrgudes mööda põletamata telliseid alla (slaid 7-8). See vaatepilt on korraga habras ja jõuline.
Need fotod näitavad hääbumist. Teist poolt, elavat pärandit, hoiab Marko Kikas (@saviukumaja). Tema arhiiv on inspiratsiooniks kõigile, kes usuvad, et savi ja lubi on meie säästev tulevik. Esivanemate loomingulisusest on palju õppida
We recently finished work at the new Ray-Ban eyewear flagship store in Tallinn. 🕶️

lime in peace. ☁️
soft shadows, texture and a lot of calm. it’s about the whole space, the light on the lime decorative putty and these two—mastering the art of doing absolutely nothing.

Ever wondered why a room finished with clay feels instantly calming? Well, it’s not just aesthetics-it’s Material Memory. 🌿
Clay is not simply a building material; it’s a geological story millions of years old. When we bring it onto our walls, we invite that ancient stability and grounding energy into our daily lives. Beyond the feeling, it works for you: regulating humidity, softening acoustics, and creating a healthy indoor climate.
Experience the silence of the earth. Experience Saviukumaja.

RAMMED EARTH DEFINED OUR AUTUMN. STILL DEFINING OUR VIBE.
Looking back at UKU’s autumn vibe — which was all about rammed earth. Weeks of testing, experimenting, and shaping beautiful design elements.
Here are some highlights:
• Round plant pots for Lasnamäe’s Circular Economy Centre with @kolmkoma, rammed side-by-side with @krohwin
• A striped rammed-earth counter for @tallinnbusinessincubator by @lumiaarhitektid
With this post we’d also like to encourage designers, makers, and curious creatives to add rammed earth to their skill set by joining a workshop with UKU. It’s honestly not as hard as it looks. The Motor team came to one of our workshops and now you can admire the beautiful counter table they made themselves.
FYI — we’ve got a whole stack of samples ready to fuel the next projects, so get in touch!
More to come soon
